Shareef is an accomplished digital development executive and educator, with over two decades of expertise in technology management, digital policy, academia, and research. In his most recent role as the Minister of State for Environment, Climate Change, and Technology, Shareef spearheaded the advancement of pivotal public digital infrastructure projects, such as the Maldives’ National Digital Identity, which used AI for the very first time in public service delivery. He played a pivotal role in expediting the legal framework for digital adoption and provided strategic leadership for the secure and efficient operation of the National Data Centre and National Computer Network. As the Chief Information Officer at the National Centre for Information Technology, he led significant technology adoption initiatives within the Maldives. His tenure at the United Nations University as a Researcher is marked by numerous publications and contributions to vital e-government programs. At Cyryx College, Shareef, as the Vice Rector for Academic Development, pioneered the introduction of Master’s programs in Data Science and an MBA in Information Technology, a first for the nation
